Spark44 | Faces of Jaguar
DIRECT MAIL SERIES - OFFSET PRINTING
Since 1935, Jaguar vehicle owners have been part of a league of proud individuals who like to stand out and drive luxurious vehicles that outperform on the road as well as the track. Wanting to build on this strong sense of community, Spark 44, the creative agency for both Land Rover and Jaguar, set out to create “Faces of Jaguar”, a direct mail series profiling vehicle owners that identify with the Jaguar brand. Similar to the high standards of these owners, they wanted to produce a bold and luxurious piece that would stand out from other ordinary direct mail pieces – and turned to Hatteras for help bringing it to life.
Their idea was to blend unique coatings and inks among the beautiful photography to enhance the overall look and feel of the end product. From early concept through final production, the team at Hatteras worked in close collaboration with Spark44, ensuring the techniques used matched the original vision.
Spark44 considered using silver foil stamping on the front cover and envelope, but opted for a UV metallic silver ink that Hatteras had recently used on several projects. Using the ink was more cost effective, faster, and allowed them to see the full effect on press. It also avoided any potential “bruising” or reverse ghosting of the stamped area visible on the reverse side of the sheet, giving complete print flexibility.

The cover was printed on a premium heavy-weight stock using the silver metallic ink, and finished with tight-fitting soft touch AQ coating on the background and spot gloss UV coating on all images. The inside text pages were also printed using spot gloss UV coating, and saddle-stitched to the cover.
Leveraging the latest technology in offset printing, Hatteras produced over 25,000 mail pieces that were printed using LED-UV curable inks on our 8-color Heidelberg XL 106, saddle-stitched, hand-assembled, and mailed, all under one roof. By combining unique inks, coatings and textures, Hatteras was able to help Spark44 launch the “Faces of Jaguar” campaign series that was destined to leave a lasting impression for all who received them.

Hatteras and the creative team at Spark44 were extremely pleased with the final product, and we can’t wait to see the rest of the series!
