“SPACESHIP” PACKAGING DESIGN
Originally launched in late 2020, Origyn Extracts is a line of premium concentrates that’s part of the growing, nationwide portfolio of cannabis operator, Ayr Wellness.
Concentrates are typically made by extracting cannabinoids from cannabis plant matter using a solvent. Once the process is complete, the solvent is removed or evaporated, and what’s left behind is a highly potent, flavorful, and aromatic cannabis concentrate. According to the passionate team at Origyn Extracts, that’s exactly what you’ll find in their products.
Ayr Wellness reached out to Hatteras for help producing their custom “spaceship” boxes, and in very fast order. They received state approval on the packaging artwork, and were ready to move quickly. Hatteras was up for the challenge and was looking forward to supporting them with this uniquely designed packaging.

The “spaceship” cartons are designed to hold a container of concentrate tightly enough so that the product won’t slip out, while creating a unique unboxing experience for the consumer. Hatteras printed two different style boxes to comply with the different states’ packaging regulations, with a total quantity of over 100,000.
The boxes were printed on one of Hatteras’ Heidelberg offset presses using 18 pt Tango paper with a soft touch coating. They were then sent to the Bobst for die-cutting and then to Hatteras’ Heidelberg Diana for folding and gluing, before shipping them flat to Ayr’s fulfillment center.
