Governors Ball Music Festival

Part 1: Ticket Packaging

Founders Entertainment, New York, New York

The Governors Ball Music Festival is an annual event held on Randall’s Island in New York City. The event, produced by Founders Entertainment, features 3 days of live music from over 70 music acts and hosts more than 150,000 festival goers. Founders Entertainment enlisted the services of Hatteras in the planning stages of this project to design a format and produce creative packaging for the admissions wristbands that would be provided to close to 50,000 festival-goers in a collector’s edition tin box. The ultimate goal was to create a captivating piece the fans would value as a piece of memorabilia and share via social media.

The final product is a diecut sleeve that protects a unique tin box which hold each attendees wristbands, an instructional insert, and a die cut sticker. The sleeves are coated with a Soft Touch aqueous coating for an added tactile sensation. The insert is a 8 panel piece that folds at 90° for the first 3 panels creating a wrap. The balance of panels fold accordion-style, and tuck into the wrap. The wristbands are placed in between the accordion panels. The insert also hosts the die-cut digitally printed sticker on repositionable vinyl.

Hatteras and Founders worked to create a few concepts and the final format is the result of a collaborative effort through several rounds of prototyping. Hatteras’ diverse capabilities allowed us to work with Founders to create a memorable piece that stayed true to their initial vision. The final pieces delivered brand consistency across three different substrates and two printing methods. Check out photos of the packaging posted on Instagram and Twitter by searching #govballnyc
