Paul Stuart Spring 2019 Catalog
DIRECT MAIL CATALOG
Founded in 1938, Paul Stuart is a luxury menswear retailer known for its unique take on classic American sportswear and tailored clothing. With four stores in the U.S. and several throughout Asia, Paul Stuart’s exclusive collections appeal to the worldly, discerning and stylish patron.
For their Spring 2019 Catalog and complementary Spring 2019 Shoe Catalog, Paul Stuart wanted a more tactile, natural feel, while maintaining the highest reproduction quality of their images. As with any savvy retail marketer, they also wanted to get the most out of their printing and postage budget.
For paper, we moved the catalogs from a coated stock to an uncoated stock, using Accent Opaque (100 lb. smooth text) which provided a more natural feel. Printing both catalogs on our new high-speed XL106 Heidelberg press, we were able to achieve the quality and price point Paul Stuart was looking for. We also worked closely with studioxL’s retouching studio, using our G7 color quality standards to validate that we could match their supplied coated proofs on press for precision color matching of products.

The catalogs were also optimized for printing and postage efficiencies. The main catalog was a 32-page 8 x 11.25 self-cover, perfected and printed as two 16-page forms on our XL106. It was folded and saddle-stitched as four parallel 8-page signatures to ensure the white page borders lined-up horizontally. The catalog also included a digitally-printed gift card that we glued-in during the folding process.
The shoe catalog was a 16-page, 6 x 9 digest size that printed two-up on a single 32-page form, also printed and perfected on our XL106 press.
Both catalogs were mailed by Hatteras, keeping the complete production and mailing process under one roof.

Through this close collaboration, we were able to arrive at a solution that achieved Paul Stuart’s budget goals and represent its 2019 spring collection with the sophistication that its customers have come to expect.
